Developing MTB in Scotland - DMBinS
Aberdeenshire Trail Academy
Trail Academy: Aberdeenshire was a pilot project that ran for 5 sessions over the month of June 2024, for a group of students aged 12-18 from Aberdeenshire, who mountain bike and have been, or have a desire to, build and maintain mountain bike trails. The project offered them a chance to engage in an industry led trail building academy programme and begin to increase knowledge and skills around trail building, provide insight into the process behind authorised trail building projects. The project also focussed on, highlighting the importance of positive landowner and community relationships, and looking at how to build mountain bike trails in areas where there are protected species and other environmental sensitivities. The project was led by Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) and delivered through North East Adventure Tourism (NEAT) with support from CRC Trails, Aberdeenshire Trail Association and The Cairngorm Capercaillie Project. Coaches and trail builders were selected based on their knowledge, experience and reputation within the trail building industry. The sessions utilised the trail network at different locations across the region, offering a range of terrain, skills requirements and teaching opportunities. With the pilot project concluded, evaluations drawn, Trail Academy is looking forward to running the next Trail Academy. It is hoped that this project can be run again both at a skills level and a graduate level in Aberdeenshire (but also nationally after some consultation). Want to be involved? Short Season | Kieran Troup
My plan this season was to film a project throughout the whole season and make a realistic, relatable film capturing what it’s really like competing, training, and everything in between during the winter. Unfortunately, I only made it to the first week of January before snapping my ACL in a crash resulting in me cutting my season short. This short film is everything we managed to get early season during the Christmas period. I had a lot of fun making this movie and I hope you enjoy :) Filmed and edited by Ben Girdwood. https://www.instagram.com/bengirdwood_videography?igsh=OWswanY3dTlwbDEx If you want to help out, I have a GoFundMe page to help pay for the knee surgery. Any help is greatly appreciated! link 👇🏻 https://www.gofundme.com/f/please-help-freeride-skier-and-former-coach-with-his-surgery?attribution_id=sl:ebaea0b7-49de-4c34-a33b-f32fd0310bd6&lang=en_US&utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=instagram_story Thanks for watching

Three Wheel Drive
THREE WHEEL DRIVE is an inspiring film about three ordinary physically disabled cyclists: Neil, John, and Caroline. They embark on an extraordinary journey to reach and stay in a remote bothy in the Highlands of Scotland, overcoming hardcore challenges on the route. The film demonstrates how, through planning and determination, they conquer their fears and anxiety, venturing into the hills to do something that is relatively ordinary for most but extraordinary for people with physical disabilities. For individuals with complex needs, bothies present real challenges, yet the team illustrates how one can surmount these obstacles with careful consideration and a can-do attitude. The film delves into genuine emotions, portraying Caroline's overwhelming joy at seeing the Scottish mountains again after 23 years, following her disability caused by a virus. The exhilaration of being amidst the hills and embracing the physical challenge leads John to momentarily forget about the pain and hurdles he's faced since his cycling accident four years prior. Neil, an inspiring leader, finds himself overwhelmed by the opportunity to explore the hills with like-minded friends, an experience he thought he would never encounter due to his spina bifida since birth. Their journey isn't just about conquering the challenges of the bothy; it encompasses the physical trials along the journey and the hazards they encounter en route.
